Hatha Yoga originated in India and has been practiced for thousands of years. It was popularized by Patanjali in his ‘Yoga Sutras’, a text that outlines the philosophy and practice of yoga. This beautiful style is a branch of yoga that focuses on physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation. It is one of the oldest and most widely practiced schools of yoga. The word ‘hatha’ is derived from the Sanskrit words ‘ha’ (sun) and ‘the’ (moon), representing the balance of opposites and the union or body and mind. Hatha Yoga is based in the belief that body and mind are interconnected and that by practicing asanas, pranayama, and meditation, once can achieve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This practice aims to balance and harmonize the body’s energy through geometric shapes, breathing, and other techniques.

Benefits of Hatha: Improved physical fitness. Stress reduction. Improved mental clarity. Balance flow of energy. More vitality. Improved emotional balance.

Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic and flowing style of yoga that synchronizes movement and breath. It is characterized by a series of poses that smoothly transition from one to the next, creating greater continuity and harmony. It is often referred to as ‘flow yoga’ because of the emphasis on fluid movement and the connection between breath and movement.

Benefits of Vinyasa: Increased strength and flexibility. Improved cardiovascular health. Reduction of stress. Better balance and coordination. Encourages detoxification. More comfort with tru self-expression and creativity.

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga that involves holding passive poses for an extended period of time, typically from one to twelve minutes. It targets the deep connective tissue, such as ligaments, tendons, fascia, as well as the joints. Unlike other forms of yoga that focus on muscular engagement and movement, Yin yoga emphasizes relaxation, surrender, and stillness. Think meditation in shapes. We approach the edge of discomfort in the body in order to keep moving into deeper layers of consciousness.

Benefits of Yin include increased range of motion and flexibility, better joint health, shift in self-awareness, balance of the flow of energy, and access to deeper states of presence.
